Myo Tam liked Noodle-O-Rama. They had good vegetarian choices. Also, very nice flavors. She had not spent so much pleasant time around humans. Though she could not say for certain, she suspected Noodle-O-Rama might be the greatest achievement of human culture.

You could have noodles with chili sauce. You could have noodles with creamy sauce. You could have cheesy noodles. You could have sour yellow noodles. You could have—her favorite—salty noodles.

And the bowls were refillable. All you can eat. Myo Tam had never heard of such a wonderful concept. If New Garrelon had such restaurants, they could achieve true greatness.

She couldn’t read human expressions well, but the manager here seemed distressed every time she came in. Recently, they began serving her in a bigger bowl called a wok.

Also, they had hundreds of fizzy drinks that tickled her belly. She was pretty sure they had lots of salt too, but she didn’t mind. She burped after chugging down another tiny glass in one sip. Despite her attempts to conceal it, everyone looked at her. Unsure of the custom, she raised the empty glass and smiled. Then she tapped the dispenser to refill it.

All you can drink too. What an idea. It was like having a river of carbonated beverages.

A slight commotion disrupted the patrons around the corner. A moment later, Rrolou came blundering through the restaurant, heading right for her. Everyone was staring at him now. She wasn’t sure that was better since he appeared intent on meeting her.

Growling, the eyndar pulled out a chair at her table—Myo Tam always had to stand—and plopped down in it. “I’ve just tracked your scent over half the damn circus.”

Frowning, Myo Tam nodded. “Yes, Ambassador Rrolou. I like to walk at night. It works up an appetite before I take my supper. I almost always take supper here. And lunch, also. And sometimes breakfast.”

“You eat three … meals a day at this …” He mumbled some word in his own language. Myo Tam suspected it was profane. That only further soured her mood at his arrival. Rrolou had very few manners. Sometimes, it was best to treat eyndar like children. With patience.

“I like it here.”

Rrolou glanced at her half-empty wok, then sniffed it. Then he sneered. “Herbivores. Bleh.”

Myo Tam frowned at her bowl. “This dish features lettuce, cabbage, carrots, and numerous kinds of beans.” She looked up at him. “They also have meat dishes available.” For savages …

Rrolou sneered. “F-f-forget the Dark-damned restaurant.” As near as Myo Tam could tell, eyndar were not afraid of the dark. She couldn’t understand this particular profanity. Rrolou didn’t give her time to dwell on it anyway. “I want you to explain something to me.”

Myo Tam suppressed a sigh. It did not seem likely she would get to finish her food before it grew cold. The manager would frown if she asked for a refill without eating what she had. Life often had these small challenges. “I will try, Ambassador.”

Rrolou held up both hands and worked his toothy mouth as if searching for words.
